Leadership Transition

Transitioning into a new leadership role is challenging - and often unsuccessful.  Multiple studies report that within 18 months of assuming a new leadership role, approximately 40% of leaders produce disappointing performance, voluntarily transfer from that role, or terminate employment.

Today’s rapidly changing business environment heightens organizations’ expectations of leaders, while decreasing patience for results. New, and newly promoted leaders are expected to quickly impact performance. Honeymoon periods are out the window. Added to today’s business challenges is the current wave of baby boomer retirements. In such an environment, leadership transition failure can be costly given the impact it has on other personnel and the resulting delays in achieving critical business objectives.

Regrettably, organizations often fail to devote the necessary resources to ensure successful leadership transitions.  One McKinsey study found approximately 80% of the U.S. and global leaders that they surveyed reported being unprepared for their new leadership role.  Clearly, more can be done to ensure that leadership transitions achieve their full potential.

Greentree Consulting, Ltd.’s Leadership Transition Services promote successful leadership transitions by improving leaders’ abilities to manage the planning, personnel, team, and cultural elements of their new leadership role. These services - available before, during, and after a transition - help new and experienced leaders plan and execute a successful transition.  The services are named Discovery, Preparation, Engagement, and Alignment and they can be bundled, creating a synergistic effect, or implemented separately as a stand-alone service.

Following, is a brief description of the four services. They are described in more detail elsewhere.
