Engagement Overview
This meeting provides a team and its new leader with an early opportunity to strengthen communication, understanding, and trust. The meeting is highly interactive, enabling:
-
a review and celebration of the team’s recent history of accomplishment;

discussion of team leader and team member expectations;
-
team leader review of his/her leadership style;
-
identification and discussion of the hallmarks of strong teamwork;
-
solicitation and discussion of team members’ questions about the leadership transition and about other matters of importance to the team.
Team leader and team members acquire important information about each other, as well as a stronger understanding of how to work together effectively. Concerns and misunderstandings are minimized; team member engagement is strengthened; the stage is set for action.
Engagement Meetings typically require three hours and generally occur within the first 30-45 days of the new leader’s arrival. The meeting is attended by the leader and by the leader’s direct reports.
Prior to the Engagement Meeting, Greentree Consulting Ltd. conferences with the team leader to develop a solid understanding of the team’s mission and group dynamics, as well as of the leader’s workshop goals and meeting preferences. Each meeting’s design is tailored as needed to meet the unique needs of each team and team leader.
The Engagement Meeting process includes two hours of post-meeting coaching to help the transitioning leader review, prioritize, and strategize regarding concerns, initiatives, and recommendations discussed in the recent Engagement Meeting. This post-meeting coaching helps leaders to transform team discussion into focused, effective, responsive action.
